| My dad is pretty crazy as you
can see below. He faces many challenges on a regular basis and the contraptions he creates (or I help him create) usually end up being very dangerous. In this instance, the only one I have ever had the pleasure of not actively working on so I was able to record it. It reminds me of the story he tells about his highschool days when he used a lawnmower blade on a washing machine motor on some contraption with wheels and plug it into the AC outlet on the wall for power to propel the contraption out the driveway and down the street (that is, until the plug is yanked from the wall, so yes it DID work). Needless to say that just about ended in catastrophe, the blade came lose, flew off and stuck into the garage ceiling. :-D Great fun. This trouble like so many others is also dangerous, the idea here was to remove a 5" thick steel ring from the inside of this magnet coil box. Several tries later we arrived at this contraption, which uses a very sturdy (and heavy) steel "thing" attached with a 1" bolt with two nuts holding it down and two 20 ton jacks to provide leverage. We previously tried a single 10 ton jack and a different steel crossbeam which only bent away from the pressure of the single jack. For this project you can see heavy duty is written all over it. The overall weight of the magnet box is roughly 3,200 lbs. Now watch the videos and enjoy! |
